Penang Press Club incumbent Vice President Tan Hu Chuan defeated incumbent Wong Soon Eng to become the new President of the Penang Press Club at its 34th AGM last Saturday.
The Nanyang Siang Pau reporter obtained 74 votes to the 50 votes secured by Wong, who is also a Nanyang Siang Pau reporter.
Tan later told some of those present that he did not expect to win.
Incumbent Vice President Loh Koon Huat of Guang Ming Daily and incumbent secretary Tan Ean Nee of Kwong Wah Yit Poh were elected Vice Presidents. They defeated Sandy Kow of The Star.
Looi Wan Ji of Guang Ming Daily was elected secretary unopposed.
The elections are held every two years.A total of 138 members attended the event, Penang Press Club has some 630 members.
Cash awards were presented to children of members who did well in their studies.
Besides those from editorial, the membership of the club is also opened to those working in the advertising, circulation and production departments. (by K.Suthakar)
